She actually found me :), through facebook!
I will recomend everyone to try to get to know potential roommates either through the Tulane survey service or just go ahead and look around facebook.
Most people who are trying to avoid random matching will be doing the same thing....so you might just find someone you can room with.
If you are going to do random matching, good luck! I know many people who went this way to avoid the searching, and they loved their roommates!
Either way, it is always a challenge to live with someone new and different....just keep in mind that you have to respect differences.....and don't be afraid to request a change if you don't feel comfortable with your roommate....happens more often that what you might think.
So if you have any questions about the roommate search process just shoot them :)....

Tulane, for the first time

By this time last year I was both scared to death and excited as never before. My summer seemed to fly away and I just saw the days coming closer and closer to the time I will have to leave Ecuador and head to my new home, Tulane.

Most people will think that choosing a college without visiting first is one of the most unreasonable things to do. Well, I had no other chance. Living so far the costs of flying to any college “just to visit” were too high for my family. So my journey to Tulane on August 17, 2007 was unique.

I decided to go a week in advance to freshman moving day to have enough time to buy everything I needed and try to get to know the city. I had my mom and my grandma with me…they loved the city, but my grandma asked me to stay very far away from Bourbon St. (of course I just smiled and told her I will be careful when I come).

It was incredible to see everything the city had to offer! All the little bars, the antique shops, the great restaurants! The music made me feel welcomed at once, and everyone we met was very eager to help me.

For the first couple of days I just went shopping around downtown. It was during my third day in NOLA that I got to see Tulane. I had taken the bus there form the Garden District. My mom had a map and I swear she felt like Dora the Explorer (don’t tale me wrong, I love her to death! It was because of her excitement with everything). We descended a stop before what we should have and ended up a little bit before Loyola’s campus.

When I saw Loyola I couldn’t stop admiring the main building. I thought to myself “Damn! I should have applied here! Tulane can’t be as pretty (…)” But I was SO wrong…couple of steps after those thoughts the indescribable beauty of Gibson Hall at Tulane University greeted me and my family. Both my mom and my grandma couldn’t stop commenting on the grandeur of the place. I was silenced by tears.

Home, I was going to live here.

I was feeling extremely lucky now that I had seen the campus, but I was still nervous about fitting in the community. But it’s amazing how easily Tulane becomes part of you and how fast you become part of the Tulane family.

I remember that the first day, during freshman orientation, every upper-class student I met kept telling me how much they had loved their first year, and how much they wished they could be freshman forever. Now I truly understand what they meant…

Coming Soon!
